"A Surprise Visitor"
Written and Submitted by: Amy P. Reed
"Oh! Sorry to interrupt you," Mac came to a sudden stop when he realized Randora was sitting on the couch in the living room, and was cradled in the arms of a strange man. He tried to swallow his jealousy, but it wasn’t easy. They’d only been married about a week, and she was already looking for someone new. "I’ll come back later." He turned and half stumbled toward the door. His romantic evening with his bride he’d planned going up in flames in his mind.
"Mac, you don’t have to go," Randora called in her soft voice. "I don’t mind you being here."
He turned in time to see her sniff at the rose in her hand. It was obviously a gift from the strange man. Her new lover, Mac corrected himself. He took a deep breath and could feel the anger building inside him. She knew he wasn’t into that sort of thing.
For the first time since he’d met her, he almost hated her, as she smiled and held out her hand to him inviting him to join the two of them on the couch. He watched through a haze of red as the man rose to his feet. He wasn’t surprised to see the stranger was very good looking, with his dark hair and eyes.
"Mac, why are you so quiet?" Randora asked, as she too rose. She was so elegant and beautiful. Looking at her, he could feel his heart cracking in his chest. He clinched his jaw to keep from either cursing her or crying. It was a toss-up as to which would come first.
How could he answer her? She sounded so calm and in control, but then, she would, wouldn’t she? This must not be the first time she’s done something like this. After all, she had slept with him while married to her previous husband. He shook his head. No, he shouldn’t be surprised.
Would she want a divorce? Or did she plan to sleep with anyone she liked while they were married? He sucked in a gasping breath and stared into the dark eyes of her lover. How could the man look so calm? There was strength in his gaze. He also seemed to be sizing Mac up. Well, of course he would. He would see him as a rival, just as Mac did the other man.
Mac’s heart contracted as he watched his wife look up into the other man’s eyes lovingly. He’d thought that look was reserved for only him. He watched as her hand gently caressed the arm of his rival and leaned against his side. She loved him. Mac could see it in every gesture and every look she gave him. Mac could feel bile rising to his throat. He had to get out before he tried to murder the man. He turned once more to leave.
"Mac, heart’s dearest, please come here, I’d like you to meet..."
